With vineyards nestled either side of the delightfully meandering River Lot, immediately to the west of the historic city that gives these unique wines their name, Cahors is one of the eldest regions of wine production in the whole of France.

 

The true birthplace of the Malbec grape, and the benchmark wine against which the South American and other New World wines of the same grape varietal are judged, the vineyards of Cahors have been producing their uniquely deep, dark, rich and powerful red wine since before the Romans invaded Gaulle.
